Beautiful! Are you the artist? If so, May I have permission to use the image on a non-commercial kirtan website?

This book (and the web version of it) is so stunning. In fact, I think the turning of the pages in this media is even BETTER than having the "actual object" in front of me (and yes, I know what a compliment that is for a tech-queen like you!)

ps - I want one of my own!!! love you, Sylvan

She's been speaking to me too ! I've been working on gathering up all the research-y stuff I used to do the portrait, I hope to have it all together soon, I'll post it here when I can. But here's a brief list from memory in a random way:

She's the only Egyptian Goddess who is depicted actually writing (a few others holding stylus/papyrus etc)

She writes the names of the newly born on the leaves of the Tree of Life, thus measuring and marking their time here

Among other things Her Priestess measured and marked the foundation of temples/pyramids before they were built

She is a Deity of Time as well as the other things I've listed (growing out of Astronomy, mathematics and measuring)

The leopard skin worn by the Priest/ess class was associated with the stars and constellations

The tree of life was often depicted with five birds, each having a specific color, representing the five stages of life. I've painted Her here with the grey bird, infancy. The egyptian symbol for soul is a bird with a human head.

Egyptian texts refer to Her as "pregnant with the deceased" or say that the Dead were Born of Seshat

Samhain Blessings,

I cannot begin to tell you how much your comment means to me. And the timing is unbelievable! This week I am in my first semester of an MFA program and have been asking myself whether or not to include poetry as part of my work (mostly I just consider it stuff-i-do just-because).

thank you so very much for both your words and your timing....

I want you to know that over 10 years ago, I was in a really bad place in my soul. I was browsing one night on the internet, tears pouring down my face, and I happened upon The Green Muse. Your poetry opened up my eyes, my heart, my soul, let me know I wasn't alone, and threw me on a new path in life. Thank you, Laurel. I wish you still have that old site up - the one I first found. I often went back and read that poetry, but it's not up anymore - glad to have found you here. ::hugs::!

Athena said this, or something like it, to me when I first encountered her.....

"I am more than real and less than fact. I live in myth and I am felt in time. My image is everywhere but my body is nowhere. There has not been a single moment in the past 5000 years, not even a second, when I was not evoked by someone, somewhere, and yet almost no one believes that I exist."

No wonder you find her daunting. But I'm glad you tried beloved GreenSis. I still cannot see her face. But I'm sure that Athena is rising in our time, a shapeshifter, not limited by our archaic concepts of human form. She feels like the emergence of our deepest creativity, a new pattern appearing out of the center of what you and I call mystery.

I believe Athena has touched me at the insistance of the Old Lady, because Athena has words witch invoke visions, instead of visions that cannot be captured by words...

 I love you!
